ACTIVITIES
Activities within the Department of Geology are organized through distinct cells called scientific services, sets consistent in terms of teaching and research, that are equipped by laboratory facilities. The results of the research are regularly published in the Annals of the Faculty of Sciences or in International journals. The Geochemisty Department This geochemistry service, with his chemical and mineral laboratory (LACM) is equipped with an atomic absorption spectrophotometer for the qualitative and quantitative chemical analyzes of major and trace elements. The Metallogeny Department It is based on a petrography and microscopy laboratory, dedicated to metallographic characterization rocks and the determination of minerals contained in ores valued. The Department of Geo-informatics This service contributes to the constitution of an international network of geological and mining databases concerning DR Congo. It is based on the potential documentation of local library and on its own computer resources. Geological cartography Service It builds on basic documents: topographic maps, aerial photographies, satellite images, geological and mineralogical maps as well as on field equipment. The Geology Department related to Civil Engineering This service studies the characterization of soil and rock mechanics and hydrogeological characterization of aquifers both in terms of quantity and quality. It is based on the laboratory equipment of soil mechanics and rock mechanics of the Department of mines in the Polytechnic Faculty. Applied Geophysical service This service conducting studies on mineral exploration (identification of suitable areas and geometry of mining deposit), groundwater survey (delimitation of aquifers) and environment (cavities detection, unwanted areas, toxic waste reservoirs). It builds on the equipment of his laboratory. |
